July 4th

Posted in Music, News, PS by purplesector on July 3rd, 2008

Should have a different name, I think.

Independence day implies celebration for national independnce, sovereignty, solidarity. America at this point in time has none of those things. While we may not be occupied by foreign troops like so many other nations on this globe, our independence has been compromised in many different ways.

I could go the easy route and talk about our dependence on foreign oil, and while this is a major issue, CNN, FAUX, and the like do a good enough job of making us feel all asshurt about our oil issues. Rather, our dependence on our international status has left us a crippled shell of our former selves. America has failed to realize that gone are the days of superpowers and 3rd world countries sharing the same earth. Technology, disease, trade and ease of travel have turned most of the globe into one big..well, melting pot. Nations can no longer win the fight against the flow of information (not even you, China), as internet usage and phone technology have left the majority of information just out of reach of the long arm of the law.

Trade has left the US especially dependent on our foreign brothers and sisters, our defecit in trade seems only to grow larger, never to decrease. Our econmy is in the throws of nearly a yearlong recession, and while tentative to do so with good reason, many experts have spoken of a depression taking place in the next coming months or years. For those of you who keep up with Wall Street, as I do, the bear is back in town, and things will likely get worse before they see the light at the end of the tunnel. Remember the stimulus check, the one that was supposed the boost the econmy briefly to create a larger window for long-term growth? Yeah, that didn’t happen at all like it was supposed to. Most people I spoke to threw the check right into the bank, or at debt they had amassed beforehand.

We can blame this on George and his administration, but that’s a cop out whether we choose to acknowledge it as such or not. The fact is, if we cared enough to have a true issue with the crappy job he was doing, we’d do something about it. People were so quick to call for the job of a good President who got his knob slobbed in office, but when a bad one comes along and pats our pockets on the daily, we don’t want to do anything. His term is ending soon, but people think his exit stage left will prove to be the panacea for this nation’s ills. That line of thinking couldn’t be farther from the truth. The next President, no matter who, has his work cut out for him from day one.  Cuba, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Pakistan, Turkey, Economy, Healthcare, Oil, Education, Poverty, National Debt. Yeah, he’s got to make a dent in all of those things if he wants people to do anything but laugh when he announces candidacy four years from then. But the scarier part is that we have to help. If these last 8 years are any indication, he could spend the last year of his term planning his move to Canada. At least they’ve got free healthcare.

All jokes and anger aside, We’ve gotta get on our jobs and off our asses. So, my July 4th resolution for 09 is to be more independent.

Now, some music.

Webster knows what’s up.

Party on the 4th, bidges.

Livin’ in the World Today - Me

Posted in PS by purplesector on June 25th, 2008

Chorus:

Well if you’re livin in the world today

you should be prepared to duck when the bullets start to spray

People that stand we don’t have them

cuz they blast them

alright? well Okay

Well, if you just wanna survive then clap man

and if the women wanna too well then raise ya hands

but only raise your hands if you’re sure

There’s never been a thing civil ’bout war.

Verse 1

My mind jumps continents and timezones

cries from orphans and dying mothers wont seem to leave sleep alone

tyrants use violence to push agendas on the innocent

Belligerent, even elections have become somewhat militant

Wonderful country naturally wealthy

wins its own freedom under rule seeming healthy

backroom plans while ruler schemes and plots

powerful nations take front row seats and watch

simply put if these niggas dont have oil

they have no chance of seein us touch the soil

African heat sees kids work and toil

AK’s fuel static, victim left to boil

This is just the world that we’re livin in

Where we all strive for dividends

we call this a civilized situation we livin in.

Chorus

Verse 2

Well what you know about survival?

Man, I know a lot.

Well can you educate us brother?

Hmm, I’d rather not.

Never one to brag and boast about what I got

Keep chasin chains,

you won’t break their locks

I sit back and count ways crime pays

stick up kids sport Jays and fresh waves

White collar individuals stay collectin residuals

we look at them as minimal

but dope boys as criminals

but in my mind, they’re exactly the same

one shoots for his change, one lies for the range

neither could hustle honest so they’re rackin the brain

lovin the high life, they have to maintain

They fold under the heat like Len Bias on the white horse

CEO get read his rights on his gold course

The man wit weight get handcuffed over his white Porsche

Boston Harlem Darfur Lagos and Durban

Fitted Cap, Fez, Kangol, Kufi or Turban

From rural locations, near city down to the urban

we all wish we had more than we currently earnin.

(unfinished)

Sho Sholly…

I have been teetering on the brink of unconciousness for most of the time following the Celtic’s shallacking of the rival Lakers. The parade was B-A-N-A-N-A-S, and the days after were almost equally awesome. What song has been my anthem for the past few days? GLAD YOU ASKED! Ladies and germs, Madlib and Lord Quas:

The C’s got in that @$$ like pampers, word to Quasimodo.

A Blog that kicks the crap out of my own.

Al Gore Campagns with Barack Obama

Posted in News, PS by purplesector on June 16th, 2008

* Ripped from CNN.com

Former Vice President Al Gore endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Monday, urging Americans to reject what he called the Bush administration’s legacy of “incompetence, negligence and failure.”

In Detroit on Monday, Al Gore endorses Sen. Barack Obama for president.

“Americans simply cannot afford to continue the policies of the last eight years for another four,” Gore, the party’s 2000 presidential nominee, told Obama supporters at a rally in Detroit, Michigan.

Perceived as a senior statesman in the Democratic party, Gore’s endorsement brings a certain force to Obama’s campaign, political analysts have said. This was Gore’s debut in the 2008 election; he had not weighed in while Obama was still battling Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Amid thousands of cheering supporters, Gore began by addressing head-on the criticism that Obama doesn’t have enough experience to lead the nation.

The former Vice President turned Nobel Prize winner playfully said he recalled one Republican nominee wondering out loud whether his Democratic rival for president was “naive and inexperienced.”

“And yet another said the United States cannot afford to risk the future of the free world with inexperience and immaturity in the White House,” said Gore. “Who were they talking about? Every single one of those quotes came from the campaign of 1960, when the the Republicans attacked John Fitzgerald Kennedy for allegedly lacking the age and experience necessary to be president.”

Richard Nixon was the Republican nominee in 1960.

Joining Obama in the midst of the candidate’s two week swing through the nation to talk about his plans to revitalize the economy, Gore praised Obama as someone who could mobilize people, young and old, who had never before taken part in politics. Gore went on to praise the nominee’s vision on the environment, domestic and international issues.

Saying he will do whatever he can to support Obama’s bid for the White House, Gore said Obama has “inspired” him. “I feel that same spirit in this auditorium tonight, building all over this country this year,” he said.

“Take it from me, elections matter,” Gore said.

“If you think the next appointments to our Supreme Court are important, you know that elections matter. If you live in the city of New Orleans, you know that elections matter. If you or a member of your family are serving in the active military, the National Guard or Reserves, you know that elections matter.

“If you are a wounded veteran, you know that elections matter. If you’ve lost your job; if you’re struggling with a mortgage, you know that elections matter.” Video Watch Gore say Americans must let Washington know that they want a change »

Gore cited concerns about the environment, lead-painted toys and food safety — even pet foods — as other reasons to vote for the Democrat.

“After the last eight years, even our dogs and cats have learned that elections matter,” Gore said, adding, “After eight years of lost jobs and lower wages, we need change. After eight years of incompetence, negligence and failure, we need change.”

Gore said the Bush administration has “dishonored and disrespected” the Constitution and led the nation through “eight years of the most serious foreign policy mistakes in the entire history of our nation.”

The Tennessean newspaper noted Obama was among the few senators in either party who argued against the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq prior to the invasion Gore called a “blunder.”

He called for Americans to move beyond partisanship and select in Obama a leader who can “solve the climate crisis and create a bright future.”
