I find myself feeling older and older every time I listen to the radio.  In the midst of songs that melt together as 35 minute bursts of mild retardation, and R&B artists who look, sound, act, and sing alike, I find myself feeling bad for kids who grow up in this era. I grew up to Brand Nubian, Tribe, Biggie, Pac, Jay, Wu, Nas, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and the like. Now, kids are blessed with the lyrical stylings of one Hurricane Chris, and, though I love him, Soulja Boy. Not hating, but these guys should not be the voices of a new generation. I mean, my generation and the one before it are just beginning to come into power, and we are all collectively a suit short of a full deck. Lil Wayne is the best mainstream rapper of this generation in the youth’s eyes. I will repeat that, Dwayne “Wobble Dee Wobble Dee” Carter is the nicest mainstream rapper in the eyes of the youth. Weezie Red Fraggle isn’t even top 30 (come test me, I can name 40 emcees nicer) all time, yet this guy is holding the torch. Lupe is nicer, but he’ll never have the mainstream appeal of one Daddykisser. The man he’s being compared to is in a stratosphere all his own, but the thing is, he’s the only one excluding one Wassalu Jaco who can be compared to anyone. Just thought I’d vent about this. I work with children as my dayjob, ages 5-14, and the things that come out of their mouths concerning hip hop make me wish I could legally slap the fire out of those little scallywags. Jay-Z can’t be the best because he’s too old, old school guys just rhyme about school and books, old school rap had terrible beats,  blahzay blahzay blah. I had a kid argue that Ay Bay Bay was a better song than Criminology. I didn’t make that last sentence up, that ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Wanna know why kids are so friggin stupid nowadays? Here’s the short answer:
