Letters from my muddled mental.

without comments

I’ve had a bunch on my mind recently.
I’ve been running out of major things to do, so I’ve just been thinking, writing crazy verses and stuff.
I had a conversation with my mom last night for like a half hour, after I had gotten home from a WACK encounter, about life in general. This rarely happens, and never impromptu, so needless to say, it was a good one.

She asked me what I was doing now that I had all this newfound free time, free space, a surplus of gasoline, and no reason to let go of any o the aforementioned perks. So, being the good son that I am, I told her all the stuff on my plate.

Weekend
Photog-ing
Party Planning
Europe/NYC?
T-shirts?

Those things, along with some things I can’t put here for fear of what seems to be a ragtag, motley crew of Gestapo who jock my every word, tweet, and keystroke, starting some foolishness, left her pretty impressed. And then we got to talking about her dad and my uncle who just recently passed. In the middle of the conversation, it dawned on me:

No idea’s orginal.

It seems, from how she accurately described all three of us, that I’m fitting the mold of Stroud men before me. Some of it negative, most of it positive, all of it eerie. I should preface the rest of this by saying that this isn’t really going anywhere, I’m at work and needed to write. Writing to me is what paint is to artists, it keeps me sane, though I do not consider myself a writer. Why? Simply put, I don’t think I’m good enough at it to be given such a title, though it is my goal to be before I die.

Back to the lecture at hand (perfection is perfected……) It got me to thinking about a whole lot of things. What seperates good from great? What seperates Stax from Cash Money, Isaac Hayes from Dwele? Jay-Z from Fabolous? Is it desire? Luck? Power of will? Some combination of these? And how, if one could ever say so in truth, would one know when they “made it”? Did Dilla know how truly great he was before he passed? Did John, Jimi, or Jerry? Did th Beatles or Led Zep realize in the midst of making music that they were laying the blueprint and foundation for music as it will be forever known since then, or did hindsight hip them to such awesome accomplishments? How did I get on this trail from my mom’s conversation? No idean my dude. But you can’t help but wonder once you start to think. It truly is more crippling than liberating, though, to think that we’d only appreciate what we had, did, or thought, after the fact. In a sense, life is always being lived at half potential. If Howlin’ Wolf would have realized in the moment that what he had put his hand to would help spur a musical and cultural revolution in his generation AND lay the foundation for Hip-Hop to do the same, could he have been even greater? Or would the burden of responsibility frind upon his mind and limit his remarkable contribution? There is no blanket answer, so I’d be short sighted to paint such people with a broader brush than needed, but it’s worth thinking about. Why? Because if you ever find yourself in the midst of something great, it might help to realize it.

Back Again, Forrealz this time!

without comments

Hey, guys.
So, for all intents and purposes, it has been a month and.a half since I posted seriously on either of my blogs. A lot was going on that basically truncated or altogether wiped my time to blog away totally. But, such is no longer the case. I’m back on here and the Long Weekend Blog, I’m still heavy on twitter (twitter.com/long_wknd) and since its continues to get nicer out, the camera will be back in full effect.

I’m single now, Long Weekend is beginning to grind things to an open, and then a (undoubtedly) awesome close. Lee’s cooking up heat AND has some major stuff lined up for summer, so major he won’t even let ME KNOW. But as soon as I can, I’ll post the info here and you guys should support him and his fam. I’ve also got some other family planning a project, so they’ll be on here as well. Ima keep the fashion, music, politricks, and opinions on deck, and I hope to throw a live party in September. All of which will be explored here. So tell you mama, tell your pa, PSDN is back.

For real this time.
